Rev. Harold T. Hermanns, 87, of Rutherford, formerly of Rahway passed away Wednesday in Allendale Nursing Home, Allendale.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Nutley and Rahway before moving to Rutherford.
He was a graduate of St. Benedicts, Prepartaory School, Newark.
He was a WW II US Navy Veteran.
He was a graduate of Seton Hall University Seminary, Darlington, NJ.
He was ordained into Priesthood on May 29, 1954.
He served the community of St. Mary's RC Church, Rahway for 45 years where he was he was the moderartor of the Holy Name Society, Nocturnal Adoration Society and many other capacites within the church and community.
Fr. Hermanns was the cooardinator of the Thursday Night Bingo Team for many years (at St. Mary's)
He was the Chaplin for the Rahway Police and Fire Departments.
Fr. Hermanns was well known and loved throughout St.Mary's Parrish and the Rahway Community.
He was predeceased by his father Harold T. Hermanns in 1955 and his mother Elizabeth Hilken Hermanns in 1986 and his brother Ronald J. Hermanns in 1987. Surviving is sister Elizabeth Hermanns Burch of North Carolina
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Tuesday October 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's RC Church, Rahway. Internment Immacualte Conception Cemetery, Montclair, NJ. Visiting will be Tuesday 2-7:30 PM in St. Mary's RC Church, Rahway and Wed. 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mary's RC Church, Rahway.
